is forming a task force to develop strategies to address targeted lead screening
for health care providers in Alameda County. The task force will consist
of representatives from the medical provider community who will have the responsibility
to define which children are at highest risk for lead poisoning, and to develop
a plan for the medical community to implement targeted screening.

Quick Check Reference for Clinical Guidelines |
In June of 1998, Alameda County Lead Poisoning Prevention Program
(ACLPPP) initiated a collaborative that promoted a comprehensive preventive
care and cross-advocacy approach for children 0-6 years of age. The four
county-administered programs included Alameda County Child Health and Disability
Prevention Program, Alameda County Immunization Project, the Women, Infants, and
Children Program (WIC), and the ACLPPP. This collaborative addressed the educational
needs of the medical provider to assist them in meeting quality preventive health
care indicators. Out of this collaborative, a comprehensive medical provider packet
was developed titled, "Connecting Points for Healthy Kids."
The packet outlines key medical screening activities for children 0-72 months
of age. "Connecting Points for Healthy Kids" was developed for direct
service medical providers to use as a "quick check" reference. For
