New! EPA Lead Safety for Renovation, Repair and Painting Refresher Training

Lead Related Construction Training and HUD-EPA Approved Lead-Safe Work Practices Classes for Contractors

The Alameda County Lead Poisoning Prevention Program is a state accredited and EPA accredited training provider.

Note: The following link includes all classes currently scheduled. The Lead-in-Construction Worker & Supervisor Training classes are not regularly scheduled. If you do not find a scheduled class but would like to request one, please all us at 510-567-8280.

Class Schedule

We provide accredited lead-in-construction training for California Department of Public Health (DPH) certification, HUD-Approved Lead Safe Work Practices training and EPA Renovator Refresher training. For further information please call (510) 567-8280.

Lead-in-Construction Supervisor Training

Recommended for anyone supervising lead-disturbing work or lead hazard control work. Certification is required if the work produces air lead levels above the CalOSHA PEL and for supervising work on Federally funded projects over $25,000, abatements designed to last more than 20 years and Lead Hazard Control grant projects. Check with the specific agency administering the Federal funds for requirements. Some cities and counties administering housing repair and rehabilitation programs may require this as a minimum certification for supervising all projects. Note: The training class is one step towards certification. There is also a separately administered test, an application and fee to be processed before a Supervisor is certified.

Lead-in-Construction Worker Training

Includes hands-on training. Recommended for workers on rehabilitation projects or those projects disturbing more than a minor amount of lead based paint. Certification is required if the work produces air lead levels above the CalOSHA PEL, for work on Federally funded projects over $25,000, abatements designed to last more than 20 years and Lead Hazard Control grant projects. Check with the specific agency administering the Federal funds for requirements. Some cities and counties administering housing repair and rehabilitation programs may require this as a minimum certification for all projects. Note: The training class is one step towards certification. There is also an application and fee to be processed before a worker is certified.

Lead Safety for Remodeling, Repair, and Painting

HUD and EPA Approved course. Recommended for remodelers, renovators, painters and maintenance workers doing painting and minor repairs. This class leads to a Notice of Completion in training for lead-safe work practices and is one step in meeting the minimum training requirements for individuals performing certain activities in federally assisted housing including Section 8. Does not qualify for DPH certification. Successfully completing this course and an EPA Renovator Refresher course can lead to EPA Renovator certification.

California Department of Real Estate Continuing Education Credits (CEU's) are now available to realtors and brokers after attending the Lead Safety for Remodeling, Repair and Painting workshop. Six hours of continuing education under the category of "Consumer Service" will be given to qualifying participants (Certificate #4430-).

  • 1 day lecture
  • Cost: Free to owners (and their employed maintenance crews) of residential properties built before 1978 in Alameda, Berkeley, Emeryville or Oakland. For a limited time this class is also FREE to all who live in, own property, or are tradespeople with an office located in Alameda County. All others pay $130.

EPA Lead Safety for Renovation, Repair and Painting Refresher Training

EPA approved course. Required by EPA for anyone overseeing work that disturbs painted surfaces in pre-1978 homes or child-occupied facilities. Prerequisite is successful completion of a HUD-EPA approved one-day course in lead-safe work practices (including the one offered above) or a State accredited lead-in-construction worker or supervisor course. Successful completion of the Refresher course leads to EPA Renovator certification.

Entrenamiento de Practicas Seguras de pintura con Plomo en Español

Este es un entrenamiento de 1-día en Español aprobado por HUD y es recomendado para personas que remodelan, renuevan, pintan y trabajadores de mantenimiento y que hacen reparaciones pequeñas.
