Health Services > Case Management

Services for children with elevated blood levels or lead poisoning are provided by public health nurses and community development specialists. These services include home visits for the purpose of educating the family of lead hazards that can be eliminated, so that the child’s optimal health can be promoted. A child who receives comprehensive health care, including adequate nutrition, has a better opportunity to avoid lead exposure and poisoning.

The public health nurses are family advocates who refer families for health, educational, social and other needed services in the community and assist families in accessing these services as needed.

Our nursing staff works in collaboration with our environmental and housing staff to ensure that the environment of the child with lead poisoning has hazards identified and remediated. Nursing staff also work closely with the medical provider of each child to ensure timely follow up blood lead testing. This collaborative approach helps ensure a favorable outcome for each child.
